MLS: Denis Bouanga in the race for the Golden Boot
Gabonese striker Denis Bouanga, who plays for Los Angeles FC (LAFC), continues to impress this season in Major League Soccer (MLS). In the last match against St. Louis City, Bouanga scored a decisive goal in first-half stoppage time to give his team a 1-0 victory. This performance brings his total to 19 goals for the season.
With just two games left in the regular season, Bouanga is currently three goals behind leading scorer Christian Benteke, who has 22 goals for DC United. With his blistering pace of performances, Bouanga is clearly aiming for the prestigious Golden Boot award, which is recognized as the MLS's top scorer. If he can overcome his deficit to Benteke, he will become the first Gabonese player to win the award.
A major asset for LAFC
In addition to his finishing skills, Bouanga has been able to count on teammates like Mateusz Bogusz, who recorded his seventh assist of the season, and Olivier Giroud, who has two goals in seven MLS appearances. Bouanga is now the spearhead of LAFC's attack, which hopes to clinch another conference title this season.
The Golden Shoe Challenge
The MLS Golden Boot is not just an individual award. For Bouanga, winning the trophy would also be recognition of his key role within his team. However, the competition is tough with Benteke still leading the way, but everything can still be decided in the last two decisive games.
